4 Top Ways to Prepare For Your First Triathlon
Without Even Having A Gym Membership!
,
.
#1. Go for a Morning or Evening Run
.
.
The problem with training to run in a gym, however, is that you won’t be exposed to the conditions under which you’ll actually be competing.
.
A treadmill will build up your endurance, but won’t provide the experience of running on uneven terrains. If you actually want to do a triathlon, you should train accordingly.
.
Run outside in the morning or evening, whichever works better with your schedule. Be sure to stay consistent with your running, since it will also help you build cardiovascular endurance for the rest of your events.
.
.
#2. Switch From Driving to Biking
.
,
This should be in addition to going for long bike rides that are specifically meant to train you for the triathlon. If possible, bike uphill from time to time, as this is one of the best ways to challenge yourself on a bicycle.
.
.
#3. Get A Swim Spa
.
.
If you want to be sure you can train whenever you want to, your best bet is to get a swim spa pool, or wherever you may live and have it installed at your home.
.
Although it may seem pricey on the surface, buying a swim spa will actually be cheaper over the long run than keeping up a swimming facility membership year after year. It will also afford you the convenience to train when you want, for as long as you want.

#4. Use Weights at Home
.
.
Start building up your muscles with weight training at home using dumbbells and barbells. This will make it easier to get your weight exercises in, since it won’t require you to drive to a gym and back when you want to lift.
.
You don’t need to lift heavy weights. In fact, lifting lighter is better because it will help you build muscular endurance at the same time as it builds strength.

One thing you should keep in mind is giving yourself plenty of time to train. Don’t register for a triathlon before you’re sure that you’re ready to complete it. Instead, prepare for one and then find an event to enter.
